Hurricane Rita

Journal Entry: Wed Sep 21, 2005, 6:24 PM
I remember 3 weeks ago after Hurricane Katrina realizing how fortunate I was still to have a home to eat and sleep in. I had so much sympathy for my neighbor state, so that is why I volunteered to help. I felt blessed that a hurricane hadn't hit my state. And now, I just feel cursed.

I am about 60 miles inland from the Gulf of Mexico. I live in Fort Bend County, and the Eye of the Storm is projected to hit us. Hurricane Rita is a Category 5 Hurricane, and evolved from a category 2 to a 5 hurricane under 24 hours. We are evacuated not just because of the storm, but because of our horses. Currently, my mother is videotaping my house, for it probably won't be here in the next couple of days ( or majority of the objects ).

I cannot explain my overall emotion. I must say it's a mix between shock, sadness, anger, and possibly confusion. I curse those who joke about the hurricane, for they are under estimating it. In my childhood, I've always thought about experiencing a hurricane, but I never thought I would actually have to worry about one.

I wish all of my fellow texans luck, and that they would be safe. I probably will not be able to come into contact with the internet for a while, so I say my farewells. Hell, I'm probably going to lose this computer I'm currently typing on. Oh well.... boy, am I depressed....

till then, I'll be seein' yall in a couple of weeks

HURRICANE RITA TROPICAL CYCLONE UPDATE
NWS TPC/NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL
650 PM CDT WED SEP 21 2005

...RITA BECOMES THE THIRD MOST INTENSE HURRICANE ON RECORD...

DROPSONDE DATA FROM AN AIR FORCE RESERVE UNIT RECONNAISSANCE
AIRCRAFT AT 623 PM CDT...2323Z...INDICATED THE CENTRAL PRESSURE HAS
FALLEN TO BELOW 899 MB...OR 26.55 INCHES. THE DROPSONDE INSTRUMENT
MEASURED 32 KT/35 MPH WINDS AT THE SURFACE...WHICH MEANS IT LIKELY
DID NOT RECORD THE LOWEST PRESSURE IN THE EYE OF RITA. THE CENTRAL
PRESSURE IS PROBABLY AT LEAST AS LOW AS 898 MB...AND PERHAPS EVEN
LOWER. FOR OFFICIAL PURPOSES... A PRESSURE OF 898 MB IS ASSUMED...
WHICH NOW MAKES RITA THE THIRD MOST INTENSE HURRICANE IN TERMS OF
PRESSURE IN THE ATLANTIC BASIN. SOME ADDITIONAL DEEPENING AND
INTENSIFICATION IS POSSIBLE FOR THE NEXT 12 HOURS OR SO.

RITA CURRENTLY RANKS BEHIND HURRICANE GILBERT IN 1988 WITH 888 MB
AND THE 1935 LABOR DAY HURRICANE WITH 892 MB.

WE BEAT BAY CITY! ( the best high school football

Journal Entry: Sat Oct 9, 2004, 6:00 PM
October 8, 2004

Omar,Grillo,Brent and I huddled in a circle, hoping and praying we would win the biggest game of our football season. The other band members were ofcourse screaming like fools, but we continued to pray. After we stopped, Omar wanted to spread the hope. He started flapping his arms like wings ( our mascot is a falcon ). The saxes and my section ( the trumpets ) started to do it. One of my best friends, Blair , decided to make a little joke out of it. He flapped his " wings " and said " BELIEVE! BELIEVE!" I couldn't help but laugh.
I kept praying on my own. I really wanted to beat these suckers! ( well actually they were kicken ass ) Foster had 34. Bay City had 36. We had a minute left. Blair continued his " believe ", while my heart galloped at a rapid speed. 45 seconds.. we moved closer...30 seconds..damn they kept stallin' us...26 seconds.. we took off................
I haven't ever been so excited in my life 'bout a football game. I screamed at the top of my lungs literally, and lost my voice. I went and hugged Blair,Omar, Brent, Charles, and Soneen. So we beat them 40 to 36. Foster High School beat the Best Football Team in Texas!!!

Now at this point we become intimidating. Today the band had another contest held in Katy, Texas. It was at Rhodes Stadium. I was ofcourse impressed with Cinco Ranch's 5a band. I got to see many bands after we performed. I saw Sealy HS! They did a POTC show, and I sang along with the pirate familiar music. The colorguards were dressed up as pirates! It was soo cute! I also saw Hightower HS, Cy-Ridge HS, Cy-Fair HS, Cy-Falls HS, Jersey Village HS, Spring Woods HS, Deer Park HS, Katy Taylor HS, Cy-Creek HS, Tomball HS, Stratford HS, Mayde Creek HS, and Katy HS.
Foster received Best-in-Class trophy * which is bou 2 ft high * out of the 4a bands. Honestly I don't think we did that well, since we were missing a lot of people due to the SAT testing. Well, I just wanted to tell everyone 'bout this.
